Study Abroad Opportunities for U.S. High School Students

Experience a new world and expand your horizons - study abroad in high school! The U.S. Department of State offers full scholarships to high school students to study abroad for one academic year. Create long-lasting friendships with people around the globe, promote mutual understanding, learn a new language, and develop leadership skills.

During the Summer, Academy of Art University offers our pre-college art experience (PCAE) classes to high school students both online and on-campus in San Francisco. With over 50+ art and design classes to choose from, it is truly a unique summer program dedicated to showcasing what art school. Full scholarships for high school students and adult mentors to take part in a 3-week youth leadership programs in Central and South America during the summer months. Use your Spanish language skills in Argentina, Chile, or Uruguay, or gain new skills in Portuguese through the Brazil exchange program.

High school students ultimately planning to apply to an undergraduate program at a top art school will likely find The Cooper Union’s Summer Art Intensive a worthwhile way to spend a summer. Student artists participating in the program choose a studio concentration in which to spend two days per week. Due to COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 RISD Pre-College program. RISD has developed a new online program designed for high school students interested in pursuing art and design in college and want to learn best practices in producing portfolio work: RISD Advanced Program for High School Students. We hope you can join us online. The High Museum of Art partners with the Atlanta University Center in offering the Early College Program in Art History and Curatorial Studies to rising high school juniors and seniors who might be interested in an art history or museum career or in attending Morehouse College, Spelman College, or Clark Atlanta University in the near future.

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)

Full scholarship to study Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajik), Russian, or Turkish for a summer or an academic year. Live abroad with a host family while pursuing your intensive language study. Previous language study is not required. Language learners of all levels are encouraged to apply!
